Week 5!

That's gone so quickly. What an adventurous first few weeks they were. I knew dropping everything with a few weeks notice to move our lives to Brazil would bring lots of unexpected experiences - but camping in the middle of a Brazillian jungle was certainly not one of those! If you haven't seen my last diary entry I wrote all about camping in the jungle with lots of pics here - https://www.brit2brazil.com/post/camping-in-the-jungle-dairy-entry-no-2

So since we've been back at home, we have realised we need to get important things in order, for example, learning how to food shop. It sounds silly but it's actually alot harder than you'd expect to shop for food in a country that's not familiar. Learning which supermarkets cater to foods we want, learning how to cook foods without being able to read the labels, converting the prices and doing the math - but we are getting the hang of it!

Another thing we are learning is the basics of Brazillian Portuguese. We are using the duolingo app at the moment and it's really useful to get the hang of the basics.

How much does this cost, please?

(quanto custa isso, por favor?)

Hello, sorry I do not speak much Portuguese. (olá desculpe eu não falo muito português).

Where is the bathroom?

(onde fica o banheiro?)

Thankyou!

(Obrigado/Obrigada)

Just a couple of useful phrases.

Anyway, so the last 2 weeks have been full of swimming and socialising but also -decompressing and trying to take in our new surroundings and figure out daily life. This isn't just a holiday - it's a completely new life style and a shock to the system!

As always, drop me an email with any topics I should talk about :)

Speak soon.
